This book is the autobiography of the author, a Turkish Jew born in Izmir in 1923. Ben Shlomo narrates with vivid details his parents and his life in Izmir. How he decided to emigrate to Palestine by crossing the Turkish-Syrian border illegally, his life first in the Jewish Brigade, then in the Israeli Defenses Forces and afterwards his civil life. This autobiography is a valuable addition to the existing literature on Turkish Jews and will be a good source for the scholars studying Turkey’s Jews.
